Welcome to Eaten by Sam! I created this blog because I love to eat and want to share my favourite plant-based recipes with others to enjoy. I base my food choices on health, ethics, environmental factors and taste. I’m 28 and currently living in London. I’m a web designer by day and an amateur competitive cyclist in my spare time. I have an 8 year old daughter who lives with her mum and isn’t a vegan, but I’m working on it. 😜
Why I became vegan
Towards the end of 2016 I was becoming more aware of veganism. In November I ‘went vegan’ for just over 3 weeks as a challenge to myself, but didn’t enjoy how restrictive it felt and still viewed veganism as a trendy diet fad. I happily returned to my normal diet which was centered around meat and dairy.
Fast-forward a couple months into 2017 and I met my partner Georgia who was already a vegan herself. She talked to me about the ethics and health benefits surrounding veganism which inspired me to look more into the lifestyle. Being a naturally sceptical person and not wanting to completely take her word for it I watched Forks Over Knives. This changed everything for me. I was stunned by the research findings of people like Dr T. Colin Campbell that linked animal protein to cancer and several other leading diseases. Hungry for more information I read The China Study.
And that was it. I knew too much now to not adopt a plant based diet. I changed my diet overnight and haven’t looked back since. I always say once you have a cause and are motivated to do something, its not that hard.
Since adopting a plant-based (vegan) diet I have discovered a passion for food and cooking. I am really enjoying exploring and creating healthy plant-based recipes. I feel healthier than I ever have and am fitter than I’ve ever been.
